sketches for [daydreaming] shelter

Our daydreaming shelter started coming along! We were able to settle down with a few integrative ideas that played well together. The primary choice of material was decided as newspaper: reasoning being, that each news story was a memory or a story left behind from each user of the space. It also inspired different daydreams, essentially proving our intent.

We also developed a chair made entirely of fabric. It is, essentially, a giant fabric book. Each "page" is made of a different fabric or pattern that inspires a different daydream. It allows the space to be comfortable as well as engineering our ideas. This ended up being the basis for our whole project.

Another aspect of the project was to develop out "newspaper roll wall." We collaborated and decided to create an entire wall of rolled newspaper, making a "window" to the outside world. When the light would shine in, it would create an interesting glow that would yet again, inspire another daydream. The adjacent wall became giant, hollow, paper mache balls. These balls would be filled with small newsprint rolls where people could write, or sketch their daydreams out, leaving comments about the space, or sharing their stories to be left as a legacy for the next user.
